Well, readers. Sorry I haven't been blogging. I just haven't felt like writing about much lately, and more specifically I'm tired of reviewing records. I am excited about listening to them, though, and am trying to figure out how to reconcile a new way to write about what I'm listening to. So, I'll get back to you on that. In the meantime, here's a list I found in a notebook two days ago, back when I did top fives. This was scrawled in the margin of some notes from my very boring Early American Foreign Policy class:
Five genres of music that I don't want to listen to because their names sound ridiculous.
1.Trip Hop
2.Math Rock
3.Post-anything
4.Freak Folk
5.Slo-Core

is "math-rock" the stuff that Mathletes listen to to get all jacked-up before big meets?
Or do they just stick with the math-amphetemes?
Just a tad curious...maybe Dan would be a good resource.
another thought: If dan ever became a rapper do you think that he could throw in a few lines like
"bitch don't front like you know complex division, you know I'm the real Mr. Wizard/been out on the streets slingin' math-rocks when ya was still talkin' about leakin' ya lizard/gotta make the money gotta get the gear/My New TI 8 billion put ya asses up in fear/YYYEEEEAAAAHHHHH, Texas Instraaament o'destruction here ta reduce ya to your lowest common form...."
You know...something like that. Take care. Love ya.
I gotta say, that li'l rap there is amazing. You should consider collaborating with Dan--I'll let him know. Now, if only I could produce some beats for you guys.
The only 'new' band that I hear over and over next to the phrase "math rock" is Minus the Bear, who I don't care for. But I think stuff like Slint is supposed to be the oldschool math rock.
On a side note, it makes me nervous that I just said "oldschool math rock" because that means "Post-Math Rock" is on the way.
Down with math rock, up with Matlock.
slo-core must be dreadful. Take hardcore anything, then slow it down, and what do you have? It must sound like belching in stereo.
I've never understood post-punk, either. Is real punk dead? The Insyderz were ska-core, that's all I know.
It's honestly sad but true: So right now I have had a lot of time off of work (with the end of one semester and one more on its way) so anywho, after I wrote that little comment all I could think about was some hard-core math-rockin' rappers. It was quite fun and entertained me for about an hour. Needless to say that I have watched every movie I have, tired of reading, and am seriously wishing I at least had some tv to stare at.
In the end though I am so ready to collaborate with dan...maybe we could come up with some great name, we already got the whole squared thing, where do we go from here?
Also I would like to add that Mr. Pape is right, the insydrz are ska-core to tha soul (which belongs to Jesus). And I miss the days when I could "skank" along to their beats.
Oh wait, I have the CD. There's another hour. "Dance Dance Revolution" Steve Merick Style!
